Better Results with Tooth-Colored Fillings

Dental fillings are one of the most popular dental restorations, and chances are you already have one, or at least know someone who has. In fact, over 90% of adults have had a cavity in at least one of their permanent teeth, and many of them have received fillings to treat them. At Darling Dental, we utilize tooth-colored fillings made from composite resin or ceramic, rather than metal ones that clash with the appearance of your teeth.

The Benefits of Tooth-Colored Fillings

Fillings treat cavities, or holes in your teeth caused by tooth decay, by replacing the tooth’s lost structure after the infection has been removed. Compared to metal amalgam, tooth-colored fillings provide a number of advantages when treating cavities, including;

As their name suggests, tooth-colored fillings are crafted to blend in unnoticeably with your tooth’s structure. Composite resin and dental ceramic can be tinted to match your tooth’s specific color and shade, and once placed, it will be difficult to tell that your tooth ever needed treatment.

Over time, metal changes shape, contracting in cold temperatures and expanding in the heat. As a filling, this makes metal a potential danger to your tooth; if it expands, the metal can break the tooth, and if it contracts, it will allow bacteria to enter to the tooth’s interior. Both resin and ceramic retain their shapes for much longer, reducing the risks of a failed restoration and the need for root canal treatment, or tooth extraction.
